My story
In my family, food was always at the centre.
Our most memorable times, the talking, the laughing, the tears and the hugs, were always around a table, laden with fresh and delicious (and often simple) meals.
I learned to cook from my dad. He taught me how the process of creating a delicious meal was also part of the fun. How a little bit of patience, some creativity and a lot of love could go a long way.
And, when he opened a restaurant, it was another way for me to see the joy that good homemade food brought to people. We all worked there - my dad, my mum, my brother, my partner and me. And I saw the recipes from my childhood come to life for other people, as they sat with their own families in their own special celebration.
When COVID hit, and then when I continued to work from home, I was determined to hold onto my enjoyment of cooking and eating. I started to focus on lunchtime - it's a moment in the day when I can stop everything, let go of any stress, and create something in the kitchen. I make meals that make me feel good - fresh, healthy, vegetarian food. I'm excited to share some of those recipes with you Under the Lemon Tree.
With a bit of love and attention, the simplest lunch can be a feast that brightens your day.
